Under Attack

I’m writing this whilst sheltering from the invading forces. It seems that the hot weather has produced an explosion of flies who have taken up residence in my home. There are about 30 of the little buggers circling in the middle of the room and nothing I try is driving them out. If you are having similar problems, the following will be of no use to you:

  • A fly swat – they are nimble, only effective when they go to sleep.
  • Vacuum cleaner – you can’t suck them out of the air the buggers just swerve out of the way.
  • Sticky window flowers – requires them to go near the window, not their style.
  • A giant net made of Sellotape – it seemed like such a good idea….

Please, if you know how to do for them, tell me!

You need one of these: http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/bug-zapper/index.html

Although this does not come under the ‘humane’ heading I feel.

Tried hoovering them out of the air?

They swerve out of the path of vacuum cleaner little sneaks.

I wonder if they would send one to me for a blog review??

We have one of those electrocuting (sp?) devices hanging up in our kitchen. I got obsessed about flies when dd1 was a new baby and our house seemed full of them. There is a river running behind where we live and I am not sure if that makes it worse. Anyway, we have it on through the summer months and it works brilliantly and is non chemical, although rather brutal…reminds me, I must get dh to clear the tray in the bottom of it out…

Abby, you made me snort Appletiser up my nose with that last line! I will speak to the boyf as he claims that the flies here are a piece of cake to nab in comparison to the ones in Africa who are ridiculously clever and stealth. I shall report back soon!

Living out in the country we have major fly problems in our house as well. We use sticky fly tape. We hang several around the house & pretty soon they are all stuck we just through the tape away.

Have managed to get on top of the swarm! Do you know what did it? Shutting the curtains, they can’t get in…
