My First Front Cover

Simple Things Magazine

So besides being my favourite monthly read The Simple Things are swiftly becoming my favourite people.

Not only did they feature Kat on their blog and newsletter (alongside some of my photography!) but they have chosen something I said to grace their latest front cover.  They’ve quoted something I said on Twitter (setting a dangerous precedent here) along the bottom of the front cover. If you can’t read it then you’ll just have to grab yourself a copy to frame once it has come out…

April’s cover is notable for more than just my quote. If you’re a regular reader you’ll notice that this cover is a departure from their usual collections of simple things. How do you feel about it?

Not only are The Simple Things making my day on a regular basis they want to make yours too. If you would like to win one of three copies of the April edition then leave me a comment telling me either: Giveaway Closed.

What your simple things are or, if you’re already a subscriber, Why you think your friend needs The Simple Things in their life.

That’s it! No extra entries via tweeting/facebook/pinterest (although you’re welcome to share the love) simply an old fashioned comment system.

This week my simple thing has been sleeping in – a perfect slow start every day. Good luck x

Brilliant! I subscribe to Molly Makes and i’m lusting after this for a birthday subscription. My simple things at the moment are: cuddles with my baby, hot toast with butter and jam and the colour of my mothers day flowers.

I am always striving to live a simpler life. My simple things are reading a book, a good cup of tea and our family group hugs at bedtime,

My simple things, are sunrise, when the light floods my bathroom in the early morning.A good cup of tea with some toast and honey, and a morning cuddle with my youngest as I come out of the shower, he’s all sleepy and warm and he snuggles on my knee for a few moments before tackling the day full on toddler style!

  • Reply Keris March 15, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Congratulations! I actually love the new cover style – seems much less earnest. My simple things are drinking tea in the morning and reading in the park (while my children play).

    • Reply Kat March 21, 2013 at 11:02 pm

Boom! You are a winner. I quite liked the earnest covers :0)

Nice description, justly deserved cover spot! Love Simple Things, I still fondle my first issue! However, I am not keen on the new cover styling at all. The beauty of the previous covers, apart from the choice and careful layout of the items they featured, was that they set TST out from other magazines. This cover looks like any number of other lifestyle / homes / women’s magazines now. Hope it’s not a permanent change :-(

    Hello. Well done Kat!
Simple things- am I allowed to say red wine and chocolate at the end of a day full of great family stuff!

*sighs happily* my simple things right now are walking to school with my boy listening to birdsong, crocheting a blanket for our bed after 25 years together and enjoying the last of the winter’s fires in our wood burners

  • Reply Sarah March 16, 2013 at 8:22 am

    My simple things are: fresh crisp bed linen; finding enough change in you purse just that odd penny ;

  • Reply Krystyna La Roche March 16, 2013 at 9:54 am

My simple things are – toasted sourdough bread with peanut butter, the continuing cold weather extending our cat’s affectionate season (ie “I am cold, let me sit on your lap”), and discovering I’m the first person to take out my current library book.

My simple things are a glass of wine in front of an open fire, some grown up conversation (no Cbeebies talk allowed) followed by a full night’s sleep (or at least 5 hours with no screaming baby at 3am). Bliss! I can but dream and read Simple Things and imagine it is me in the photos ;)

  • Reply Cathie Merz March 18, 2013 at 12:26 am

My simple things are walking on the beach early in the morning, then sitting on my back verandah with a great coffee and something delicious to eat while reading a new magazine or two. A huge bunch of white flowers would be a bonus.

    • Reply Kat March 21, 2013 at 10:58 pm

Boom! You are a winner. Ooh a verandah, such a nice space to occupy as the sun is setting x

My simple things are: a deep bath so hot it almost hurts. Bright, spring sunshine and sharp secateurs. ‘Mad Men’ in bed.

    I’m a subscriber but I’d love to win for a friend :)

  • Reply Muddling Along March 18, 2013 at 12:15 pm

I’ve been really tempted by this – need to find a friend I can share with, magazines are a luxury in our new world order

My simple things are sitting with my crochet by a roaring fire passing time quietly with my family

  • Reply Tess March 18, 2013 at 1:50 pm

This looks like such a lovely publication! My simple things are casting on for a new knitting project, sleeping in freshly washed sheets, and sitting in front of the fire with a purring cat next to me.

  • Reply Emma March 19, 2013 at 12:38 am

My simple things are a cuddle with my ten week old baby, watching my two year old’s vocabulary increase everyday and the luxury of a hot bath and magazine… A rare treat nowadays!

  • Reply h0pefulmummy March 20, 2013 at 6:14 am

so many simple things that perhaps I don’t concentrate on enough, am not grateful enough for… but at this moment, sitting at dawn with the chorus just beginning my simplest things are thick socks and cosy toes, and family snuggles in bed.
Great front cover and I LOVE your animation for Kat’s new book – simple and AWESOME!

This week we are enjoying having no scheduled events. It’s Spring Break so no school, no hockey, no cheer, NO WORRIES! Yay. Loving ‘simple’ easy days where we can wake up to make our own plan for the day and not run from one thing to another. Tragically there is a bit of work for me and my husband but the kids are free and the sun has been shining. Life is good.
    I’ve never read the S

My simple things include tea time with my sister and the accompanying cuddles with my one-year-old niece; quiet moments knitting, crafting, gardening or reading; and biking with my husband.

  • Reply Maggie March 21, 2013 at 1:49 pm

I love the cover, and congratulations to you for being featured on it!
My simple thing is a free Sunday morning, with my husband and dog still snoring, and me sitting down with the newspaper, my diary, a cup of tea and playing some LP’s. Having this moment to myself while knowing that my loved ones are close by, is one of the best things in the world.

  • Reply Jo March 21, 2013 at 1:52 pm

As my 2 year old daughter and i are house bound due to the dreaded chicken pox our simple thing is transforming our old envelopes with some finger painting. Oh yeah and its my birthday so we may be sneaking a bit of cake in too! Jo x
