Morning Walks

Some mornings just sing out for a long walk and lip-numbing, blue-skied frosty mornings are most deserving of all. I jolly the children out of their pyjamas, wrap up and grab the camera – it’s magic.

One of the huge benefits of being friends with a talented crochet designer is that they will make hats for your children. Betsy’s gorgeous new hat is set to become Kat’s next pattern; aptly named the Miss Betsy (check out her Etsy store for patterns and her Not on the High Street store for knitting and crochet kits – hats in both stores).

The walking pace is gentle and the children point out things I might like to photograph and lie down with me when I got for a low shot. They’re too full of laughter to stop and look at the camera so I content myself with catching them as they lark about.

As I shoot these pictures I’m already thinking about what it will be like to shoot with my new camera. Capturing Childhood has been busy registering students for our January classes, London workshop and sending out gift certificates (with thanks to The Guardian Christmas Gift Guide for recommending us) all of which adds up to us reaching a target for investment in equipment.

Right now a new and fancy camera is on its way to me and I’m excited to take it out for a walk. More frosty mornings please!
