Shell Bay

There is nothing more glorious than the beach in Winter.

This Saturday we had something to collect in Swanage and so we set off early to catch the last of the light at the shore.

They humour my photos for a few minutes before setting to work on re-routing the beach river. Racing over to a waiting blanket at the prospect of hot chocolate, chattering all the while about their plans.

Scarcely an hour has passed before we’re heading back to the car in dusk and on to our destination. Yet an hour filled with the kind of joy that will last all week.

That picture of your little sweethearts in their animal jumpers has just about melted my heart! I love how an hour can be so much fun in the right setting, and I’m also glad you’re finding such joy in everything again. Keep it up, Kat!

Oh, I’m so jealous of your trip to Shell Bay. Just the name of it makes me think of my Dad’s aunt who was a bus conductor in Poole. I can hear her now, with her broad Dorset accent, talking about taking my cousins there. Although I am 100% born and bred in the North-East, a bit of my heart will always be in Dorset, I love it so much. I can’t wait to take my children on more holidays there. I just have to get over the thought of the gigantic drive to get there.

Dorset has to be one of the finest counties in England.

That looks like seriously good hot chocolate. We live by the sea and I much prefer visiting in autumn and winter, no worrying about sun cream or stubbed toes, plonk on some wellies and suitable clothes and there you go.

It’s Jamie Oliver’s ultimate hot chocolate recipe – worth the mixing for sure.

Oh bless, I love the picture of your children all working hard at digging a channel in the beach river! We used to do stuff like that all the time on the beach in winter, although our Mum never brought hot chocolate!!

Love the top picture of the grasses. Beautiful.
