A Little Nesting

Every time someone asks me if I’ve got all the baby stuff out it makes me feel like I should be more organised. I know that having all the baby clothes freshly washed and folded in advance is probably a good idea but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they weren’t. This weekend I figured as I am now just over eight months pregnant it couldn’t hurt to dig out the clothes just so I know where they are.

There are some special memories attached to these teeny tiny garments, I still have Milla’s first outfit. I couldn’t tell you which Monty’s was as the same newborn sized baby grow we took to the hospital was too small for our giant baby. The tiny vest in the picture above was a gift from my best friend which arrived in a hat box filled with thoughtful goodies which made me cry. The majority of the clothes are white as I love nothing more than a new baby in a soft white baby grow.

I have bought each of my children one of these gorgeous brushed cotton swaddling blankets which I will keep to give them when they have their own children. I am very lucky to have already been given one for this baby by Lula Sapphire along with some very sweet baby clothes. Lula Sapphire launched when I was newly pregnant with Milla and they fast became a beacon of style in a sea of mediocrity. I wasn’t alone in feeling this, Natalie was inspired to create Bambino Goodies as she felt the same. It is through writing for Bambino Goodies I have come to know so many of the designers and retailers I admire which is a real treat.

Another connection made through Bambino was with the folks behind Bednest who I wrote about last year. When I contacted them saying I was interested in getting one for this baby they very kindly offered to sell me a preloved model half price. It arrived yesterday and I am even more smitten with it having seen it nestled alongside my bed. We co-slept with Milla for over a year and even though Monty wanted nothing more than to be in constant physical contact with me, somehow the whole co-sleeping thing didn’t work out for him. He was in a crib alongside the bed and I think he would have loved a Bednest. Let’s hope this babe is happy snoozing in there.

Just one or two things ready and I feel like time has rushed on so quickly. A trip to the midwife (and an extra examination from Monty) found the baby to have moved from its favourite transverse position into the almost ideal back on the left position. This is the first time a baby of mine has managed this position and I’m wondering if it will mean other firsts?

Aww baby clothes are so lovely. I have so many! I kept all of K’s clothes for years and years, even her socks! But we had to get rid of them in 2008, but by that point I had given up on the idea that I would have any more kids, but it was still so upsetting to part from them as every outfit held a special memory for me. I just had to hold something and I could remember K wearing it.

So I am starting from scratch this time round, but it’s not such a bad thing as these clothes will be personal to this baby.

I wish you every luck and happiness with your new baby! x

Not sure how I am going to cope saying good bye to all of the cute outfits when this baby grows out of them. I’d love to make a memory quilt but really should sell them on…

I have identical swaddling blankets and they are wonderful. Violet has now grown out of hers but there was something magical about seeing her wrapped up and sleeping soundly in it, like the perfect present! That Bednest looks gorgeous too – wish I had known about it before. Glad everything is going well and thank you for such a sweet post!
